Most would say the biggest problem with the 2nd generation Mazda 3 would be the front end. It is non-aggressive and extremely smiley. However, Daisuke took that problem and improved on it with a color schemed AutoExe front bumper.

Bringing together the whole color scheme of the car are these Tanabe SSR Professor MS1. 18×9.5+30 on 215/40/18 Good Year Eagle LS2000 tires in the front and 18×10+24 on 225/40/18 Good Year Eagle LS2000 tires in the rear.

The rear is changed with a Garage Vary rear side diffusers, emblem removal, rear wiper delete, and tinted rear tail lights.

Sitting pretty on Blitz ZZ-R coilovers with 326 Power 100mm 12kg springs in the front and shorten springs in the rear.

Back in high school Nick had a Toyota 4runner, not your typical tuner car, so he didn’t have the best platform to start out with. With the whole Hot Import Night and neon light scene still in full effect, he started out with wheels and an exhaust. Eventually he got inspiration from the JDM version, the Toyota Hilux to modify the car even farther. So with a high school kids budget, Nick put airbags, bodykit, Sparco race seats, and full vinyl interior. And there you have it, pretty much the only custom lowered 4runner in California in the early 2000′s.

After getting rid of the Toyota 4runner and going through a few Honda builds. Nick got into a drifiting and building a Nissan 240sx. The 240 helped promote his paint shop, Spring Mountain Auto Body, and eventually the car was featured in Import Tuner and Hella Flush. As Nick got bored of the 240sx, he eventually got the Mazda RX7 FD we see today.

The car scene in Las Vegas still has a bunch of Fast & Furious types stuck in old trends. Las Vegas has always been behind California in regards to new trends, but with the Internet it’s not as bad as before. You have the main guys, who all know each other, and try to influence the Las Vegas car scene. And with the fitment game it has brought a lot of different genres together; Euro, JDM, VIP, drifters, etc…which has made it overall better to be a true car enthusiast.

What shoes is this FD wearing? Work Gnosis HS203 wheels in 19×9.5 +9 and 19×11 +/-0, and on Stance Suspension coilovers.

The FD is currently being torn apart piece by piece for a single turbo swap. Nick loves this thing and learning a lot about it each day.

While, the air suspension individuals actual are not against being static, but on the other hand are the more knowledgeable ones to what air suspension can really do for them.  It is truly a misconception that air suspension will cost you thousands of dollars, but in reality the most basic air system starts at $1000 and gradually increase with how high-tech you want to be with that system. It is true, however, that having air is the easy way to living the lowered life style without certain risks. But, there are those that ride just as low as those who are static with their air suspension, they just have the option to “air up” if they really wanted to. Nevertheless, I wanted to point out that you should not disregard air suspension, but also appreciate the work it took to get their suspension, lines, compressors, tanks, gauges, and management to work for their platform.

Thanks to Bag Riders for providing our air necessities and technical advise. They provided us with Universal Air Suspension bags and Accuair analog mangement; almost everything to get the job done. In addition to those items, the buddies at All Day Fabrication provided us with lower rear arms, which allowed us to run any bag of our choice and the ability to lay frame in the rear. To finish the job we went to Unlimited Auto Craft, who provided farther technical knowledge and installation of our air suspension.

Universal Air Suspension air bags. For the front we went with Aero Sport bags and the rear with Air House 1 bags.

The Accuair VU4 valve manifold. Helps inflate and deflate air bags, and provides reliability in operation.

AVS switch box controller.

All Day Fabrication Lower Rear Arms. This allows you to run any bag of your choice and will allow you to tuck wheel in the rear. Just like the name says, this replacement arm is design to sit lower than stock, so in turn allowing you to go lower on your air setup. Please be advised, you can not run a rear sway bar anymore with these arms.

5 gallon air tank. Air tanks come in all shapes and sizes; just choose the one that fits your air setup.

Viair 444c air compressor. This is what determines how fast new air is refilling your air tank. Some people choose to go with dual compressors to prevent over use of one, which will cause the compressor to burn out. Thus, having two compressors will split the load up. Like us, you could try one compressor and always upgrade to another one in the future.

The front Aero Sport bag assembled with the brackets, which allows you to directly replace the spring and attach the air bag directly to the coilover.

The rear Air House 1 bags assembled with the All Day Fabrication Lower Rear Arms.

The PSI gauges for both fronts and rears. This will allow you to keep track of what pressure is in what bag. We put the gauges by the cigarette lighter to give it that OEM look.

This looks like a mess, but it really isn’t. Each line is color coded, which allowed us to easily know which line is what. Taking apart the interior and rear seats was super easy.

The trunk setup before the wooden false floor got carpeted and the stock trunk floor mat was placed over that.

Here you have how the All Day Fabrication Lower Rear Arms with the Universal Air Suspension Air House 1 bags look installed on the car. They stand out a lot and are very beef.

What’s new? Ken decided to change it up with TSW Valencia wheels, Stage21 front lip, and some light body work to get everything pristine looking again.

We have always loved the color Ken decided to repaint his Mazdaspeed Axela. It is a BMW color code called Sepang Bronze, which actually looks at home on this.

Ken went with 18×9.5 +20 TSW Valencia wheels with 215/40/18 Nitto Neogen tires all around.

Still sitting pretty on XYZ coilovers with 140mm 15k springs.

Well, this phrase is the definition of what we feel about C.J. Gann’s roadster. Disturbed by how good it is, but pleased at the very same time about how well everything has come together to make it so appeal.

C.J. Gann got into the automotive scene thanks to his family owning an exhaust and automotive shop, which he also works at. In addition to this, C.J.’s first car was a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta that got him propelled into the modified scene, even though the style of modifying back then was complete different than today.


Just like an ex-girlfriend that you keep coming back to even though you have owned something better like a MKIII Supra Turbo. This is actually C.J.’s third Miata. Something about a Miata is just fun. Though it may not be fast in its stock form, its just a blast driving through turns and such. Browsing through the Miata forums in the infamous “slammed thread,” C.J. knew he wanted to be one of those guys.  Having looking up to all those guys, he got an idea for what he wanted for his own car.

While, C.J.’s local automotive scene in Dalton, Georgia is very poor in taste. He does have a great group of friends that all have a similar taste as he does. They would have “Slam Jams,” where they would typically meet somewhere to eat and just hangout around the cars afterwards.

The signature cute Miata face. You grow to accept it and love it.

The fitment and the quality of condition the car is in is amazing. You would usually see broke parts and mangled fenders on other cars with this level of fitment. Take notes people, clean cars are the best cars. Especially maintaining an older car.

The retro/classic Japanese styling of these wheels suite this so well. Work Equip 03 with Black polish finish. Stunting on 15×9 -6 with 195/45 Toyo T1R tires all around.

What got us to “Me Gusta?” This vanity plate did it; suiting this roadster just right and giving it character.

In the inside, we have Black with Red interor, which is 1 of 1500 ever made; rare. Sporting a Grip Royal steering wheel, OEM Nardi shift knob, and Sparco Speed 2 seats.

This 1989 Mazda FC3S RX7 owned by Dale from Rotang Klan caught a lot of attention on the display floor, and you should be able to see why…

Equipped with BN Sports front/rear bumpers, wing, and rear wide body fenders. Dmax front fenders and hood. All coming together to create this wide body beast of a FC.


Stunting on a set of Weds Kranze LXZ all around.

This gives you a good picture of how aggressive Dale’s wheel fitment is even on his wide body.

So aggressive that you can see the barrel of the wheel very clearly between the stretch of the tire’s sidewall and rim of the wheel.  The previous set of rear wheels were 18×11.5 -36 Weds Kranze Bazreia, that should give you an idea on what these specs might be.

The front is not as outrageous as the rear with Brembo front brakes and Dmax front fenders.

Stripped interior with Bride Low Max seats, hydrolic hand brake, Sparco steering wheel, and more. If you think this is just a show queen, then you are mistaken. This beast gets drifted hard when it wants!

This NB MX-5 (Miata) also got a lot of attention with its low placement NA 13B setup. You could probably eat food of the engine bay.

Here we have a definite classic in the heyday of rotary history, the Moffat/Hansford 1984 Mazda SA22C RX-7 on a set of SSR Mesh wheels.

The very clean Riverside / Castrol Mazda Capella (616) with its retro race styling and 13B turbo engine setup.

While also keeping it classic with SSR MKIII wheels with Black faces and polished lips all around.

Another SSR MKIII wheels with a Gold face and polished lips.

Of course it wouldn’t be a New Zealand event without the infamous Mad Mike. Mad Mike showed off his 26B quad rotor 1996 Mazda FD3S RX-7 on the display floor and his 20B three rotor 2004 Mazda SP3 RX8 on the drift area (not pictured).

Even in the spectator parking lot you could see the cool enthusiast cars.

These are some of the Mazda platforms we decided to highlight in our coverage. There were many other rotary based vehicles and even regular piston based ones as well. So, this event does not discriminate anyone to enjoy the fun. Nevertheless, we could not have gotten this coverage to share without our NZ friend, David Atkinson. This has to be the coolest thing that Mazda has developed in a long while, the SKYACTIV-D engine. This version of the SKYACTIV engine is ground breaking for those looking for great fuel economy and power because of the efficiency of diesel compared to gasoline.

As you can see, Mazda plans to debut a twin turbo version of the  SKYACTIV-D engine in the 2013  Rolex 24 hours of Daytona.

Here we have the 2014 Mazda 6 sedan production model, which will come with the non-turbocharged version of the SKYACTIV-D and won’t have 2″ wider fenders compared to the competition version that you saw above.

Nevertheless, compared to the competition version, it gives you a good idea of the potential that the next generation Mazda 6 will have.

The 2013 Mazda CX-9 remains the same internally with its minor interior styling updates and 3.7L V6 engine, but has a updated exterior with the KODO styling.

As we approached the 2013 Mazdaspeed 3 we were disappointed that nothing changed. We were looking forward to seeing even a concept of the SKYACTIV technology and KODO styling on this model. But, rumor has it we won’t be seeing any of that till late 2013 or early 2014.

Mazda decided to unveil three theme concepts of the 2014 Mazda CX-5, which caught the eye of the auto show attendees. The CX-5 is complete with the SKYACTIV technology, which includes a light weight platform, efficient 2.0L/2.5L engine, and transmission. This all equaled to the first US debut of the 2014 Mazda CX-5 for the US market.

Another 2014 Mazda 6 sedan featuring the 2.2L SKYACTIV-D engine, and new KODO styling in a beautiful Blue-Teal color.

The 2014 Mazda MX-5 (Miata) in a True Red paint code featured a new flare to the front end, especially to the fog light area; a nice touch in our opinion. While, news is that the 4th generation MX-5 will be a joint venture between Mazda and Alfa Romeo to create the next generation of MX-5. Both will have their own variation similar to the Toyota and Subaru venture with the FRS/BRZ, which are extremely popular.

As you can see the Mazda presentation area for the 2012 year at the LA Auto Show was one of the best we have seen in years because of the introduction of their new goals and SKYACTIV technology for current/future models. Mazda is definitely changing the game once again giving us the most bang for the buck as they are known to be.

Taylor got into cars when he was about 18 years old. All his friends owned Volkswagens, which lead him to attend Volkswagen shows. Immediately he feel in love with the cars, the people, and the overall feeling he got going to these shows. If you aren’t familiar with that sensation, get yourself out there!

Not knowing much about them at all, Taylor picked up this 1991 Miata at a local car dealership completely bone stock. Taylor has always loved how the Miata looked compared to every other car on the road; just straight up different.  He figured a Miata would give him just that. Well, it sure did!

The looks Taylor got in this thing is unreal. Some people will love it in your local area, but equally some hated it as well; mainly the local police.

Hector got into cars right when he got his license at the age of 16 back in 1992. He started out with his mom’s 1984 Ford Escort, that he ended up lowering significantly. Lets just say that his parents were not too happy . Hector thought it looked great, and then on he had lowered everything he had owned. Just loved the overall appeal of the car after being lowered.

Being a father of four children now, Hector was driving a Mazda 5 for a few years before he got his hands on something AWD. Hector was looking for something good for the winter snow, and was looking at a pre-owned Audi S4 at first at the local dealership. But the cost of the pre-owned Audi S4 was still a lot, which then turned him to the Mazdaspeed 6 in the pre-owned lot, which had a lot of bang for the buck.


Now the MS6 has changed a bit since buying it from that pre-owned lot. One thing you will notice is the Next Mod replica AE lip kit all around.

This wicked six is on KYB aftermarket struts with RPM lowering springs; surprise! While Hector choose to go with 19×10 Ace Convex wheels on 235/35/19 Falken tires.
