We are use to posting the usual latest Mazda models here, and the classic Mazdas everyone knows and loves. But, every now and then we get to share the Mazda models we rarely get to see today. For a few years in the 90s Mazda produced an unique chassis known as Lantis, 323F, or Astina. Unique for the body style, frame-less windows, and the rare Type-R option.
Here we have Ikaspeed‘s 1996 Brilliant Black Mazda Lantis Coupe Type-R from Niigata, Japan.
The Lantis had the Type-R option, which included appearance differences and the 2.0L KF-ZE V6 engine.
How did you end up owning the Lantis?
“I saw the Lantis on the streets and feel in love with it at first sight. I like the styling and 2000c (2.0L) small V6 engine…”
Ikaspeed decided to keep it simple with the exterior addons, which include OEM front lip, OEM clear lens, and Shelter trunk spoiler
What is the inspiration behind this build?
“The inspiration is from many cars like JTCC and BTCC cars…I like low cars, ducktail, and racing wheels…”
The OZ Racing Rally wheels are period correct wheels, and look at home on this car. Ikaspeed went with 17×8 +35 with ATR Sport 205/40/17 tires all around.
“I’d like to add more period correct wheels to my collection…like I also put on Yokohama AVS VS-6… a ’90s Japanese street racing wheel…so keep adding more depending on the mood…”
